Summary
JEC @ Tambora demonstrates how a compact, high-volume specialty eye clinic can deliver significant clinical, operational, and public health impact. Operating within a 500-square-meter facility, with eleven ophthalmologists and approximately 30 employees, Tambora has become one of the most efficient clinics in the JEC network through focused specialization, disciplined execution, and integrated team workflows. In 2025, Tambora recorded more than 30,000 outpatient visits and over 5,000 surgeries, including more than 3,500 cataract procedures. This volume positions Tambora among Indonesia’s leading clinic-based cataract providers and contributes to the national Cataract Surgical Rate, a key indicator in reducing preventable blindness. The clinic also achieved the highest admission-to-surgery conversion rate across JEC Clinics, exceeding the network average by more than 65%.
Despite serving a predominantly National Health Insurance population (known as BPJS Kesehatan), Tambora maintains premium clinical standards through advanced diagnostic and surgical technologies, efficient patient-flow management, digital appointment control, and home-based pre-operative pupil 2 dilation. These innovations support high surgical throughput, a complication rate of approximately 1%, a 4.7 Google rating, and a Net Promoter Score over 90. JEC @ Tambora illustrates how operational discipline, technology, and patient-centered design can expand equitable cataract access.
