- Professionalism evolved to being perceived as a multifaceted construct
- “Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.”
Summary
The presentation examines how Generation Z is reshaping the healthcare workplace and what this means for the future of medical institutions. From my perspective as a physician in an ophthalmology hospital, I will discuss how younger generations bring different values, expectations, and working styles that challenge traditional models of professionalism, hierarchy, and dedication. Rather than seeing these differences as barriers, Gen Z’s traits can strengthen healthcare teams. Key aspects of the younger generations can complement the experience, resilience, and commitment of senior physicians. The presentation will also address how work-life balance, mental health, transparency, merit-based recognition and participation in making decisions are increasingly important for younger professionals. The goal is to 2 show how integrating the strengths of different generations can create more cohesive, innovative, and sustainable healthcare environments, improving both clinician well-being and patient care.
