Summary

The SimuSanté 15-20 project, led by Hôpital National des 15-20 in Paris, is transforming ophthalmic education by integrating simulation-based learning to enhance clinical skills and patient safety. Focused on key areas such as intravitreal injections (IVT), infection risk prevention, crisis management in operating rooms, and communication for delivering difficult news, the project ensures comprehensive training for healthcare professionals.

Governed by a multidisciplinary steering committee of 20 certified trainers—including nurses, physicians, hygienists, psychologists, and biomedical engineers—the initiative fosters holistic, team-driven projects that address every dimension of patient care. This collaborative approach strengthens interprofessional coordination and promotes a culture of continuous improvement.

The project utilizes advanced simulation tools, such as procedural mannequins, virtual reality, and hybrid patient models, to create realistic, in-situ training sessions. These modules are designed to be time- efficient and adaptable, minimizing disruption to clinical workflows while ensuring effective skill acquisition. Rigorous pre- and post-training evaluations validate competency development, aligning with Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) certification standards.

By emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration, SimuSanté 15-20 enhances teamwork, patient safety, and overall care quality. Presented at WAEH 2026, this innovative model aims to set a global benchmark for simulation-based training in ophthalmology, encouraging widespread adoption to elevate standards of care.
