🗓️ Thursday, February 26, 2026
🕐 01:00 PM CET
💻 Online (Zoom)

What will we talk about? FAIR data stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. These are principles for managing, storing, and publishing research data in such a way that both humans and computers can easily find, understand, and reuse them, making scientific research more efficient and reliable.

The Community of Practice is led by Ciara Bergin, Chief Data Officer at Fondation Asile des aveugles, Hôpital ophtalmique Jules-Gonin.

This Community of Practice will officially launch on February 26, from 13:00–14:00 CET. We will bring together professionals from eye hospitals worldwide to learn about FAIR images in ophthalmic care, exchange experiences, share best practices, and explore strategies to further improve eye care.

After registration you’ll receive an e-mail with the link to join the meeting on Thursday, February 26.

Please note that this session is only open to staff working at WAEH member eye hospitals. Not a member yet? Join the global WAEH community via our website.

News from our full member Moorfields Eye Hospital

Over one million people are estimated to currently have glaucoma in the UK, a figure projected to reach more than 1.6 million by 2060, according to a study led by Moorfields and UCL researchers.

The new figures, published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology and commissioned by Glaucoma UK, are nearly 50% higher than previous estimates of glaucoma prevalence. The researchers say there could be more than half a million people with undiagnosed glaucoma – a common eye condition in which the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged – in the UK.

Monthly Note: Innovation in Eye Care

News from our full member LV Prasad Eye Institute

Technology innovation is one of the key “functional arms” at LVPEI. Its core purpose is to translate innovative ideas into market-ready solutions that can create large-scale impact in Indian eye care, and across the world. However, innovation is never easy. It is inherently risky and is often marked by misfires, near-hits, and long periods of quiet perseverance.

Every once in a while, an idea matures into a solution that addresses a real-world problem and achieves true ‘product market fit’. This becomes especially important in India, where we are often consumers of technologies developed in a very different health system and populations.

Dear everyone,

We wish you a joyful and prosperous Chinese New Year filled with health, happiness, and continued success in caring for vision worldwide!

Warm regards,

Maaike van Zuilen
