WAEH Meet the Chair

With University Eye Clinic Maastricht (The Netherlands).

Prof. Dr. Carroll Webers, Head & Chairman at the University Eye Clinic – part of the Maastricht University Medical Center from Maastricht, The Netherlands and Frank Biggelaar (University Eye Clinic Maastricht) met with Anders Boman (WAEH Chair and CEO St. Erik Eyehospital), Wim Oosterom (WAEH Advisor to the board) and Maaike van Zuilen (Global lead of the WAEH) to present and tell us all about their eyeclinic, scientific research and use of advanced technologies to provide excellent eye care to their patients.

Caroll Webers is a Glaucoma specialist at the Maastricht University Medical Center. He also is Chairman of the Medical Board. The University Eye Clinic Maastricht became a full member of the WAEH on March 19 this year.

The University Eye Clinic Maastricht functions as an academic centre. It serves four functions: care, education, research and innovative organization.

Excellent partners in Eye care in India

The University Eye Clinic Maastricht collaborates with two partner eye hospitals in India. Namely,
the Narayana Nethralaya in Bangalore and the Aravind Eye Care System in Madurai, Chennai. The focus of the collaboration is research, education and e-health.

Why join the WAEH?

According to Webers, there are several reasons why it can be beneficial for your eye hospital to join the WAEH. Firstly, you get the opportunity to learn from best practices. Secondly eye hospitals from around the world exchange staff and knowledge. Furthermore, your eye hospital can participate in projects or team up for the major challenges and collaborate. Lastly, the possibility to discuss future business models in eyecare.
