Abstract Submission Now SUPER Closed
Over 120 Submissions Received!
We are thrilled to announce that abstract submission for the 19th Annual WAEH Meeting is officially closed—and what an amazing response!
We have received more than 120 abstracts from our global network of eye hospitals.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed!
The abstracts span our key themes for 2025, including:
- Low Vision Care – exploring whether it falls inside or outside the traditional scope of eye hospitals, and sharing best practices and research opportunities.
- Innovations in Ophthalmology & Hospital Design – featuring topics from 3D surgeries and foldable operating rooms to cutting-edge infrastructure enhancing efficiency and patient care.
- AI & Data in Eye Health – covering the role of AI in diagnostics, patient monitoring, surgical decision-making, and integration with hospital EMRs.
- Workforce Development & Leadership – addressing strategies for retaining and nurturing highly skilled ophthalmology professionals, including leadership and nursing development.
- Quality & Patient-Centered Care – focusing on continuously improving service and safety.
- Green & Circular Environmental Practices inEye Care – showcasing sustainable hospital processes, waste management, and eco-friendly cataract surgery solutions.

What’s next?
We are currently in full review mode, carefully evaluating each submission. With such a high number of quality abstracts, the process is taking a bit more time—but rest assured, we’re committed to a thorough and fair review. Our goal is to allocate each abstract to the format that suits it best: oral presentation or poster.

The Community of Practice for Nurses and Allied Health personnel is for all nurses and allied health personnel working in eye hospitals worldwide!
This group is led by Tendai Gwenhure from Moorfields, London, United Kingdom, and Diana Malata from Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin, Ireland.


Last Thursday the 26th of June the Community of Practice took place.
We spoke about the WAEH travel exchange programmes for nurses that have taken place between the Jakarta Eye Center and The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (Australia), the educational exchange between the Singapore National Eye Centre (Singapore) and the Eye Hospital Wenzhou Medical University (China) and last but not least the visit from a delegacy of Optometrist, Orthoptist and a Pharmacist from the Singapore National Eye Centre to the Rotterdam Eye Hospital in May!
What did they learn? What did they see?


This is a three monthly meetup via zoom of one hour in which we share ideas. The next online meeting will take place on the 18th of September 2025 at 01.00 CEST.
The meeting is open to all nurses, allied health personnel and other staff from eyehospitals that are a member of the WAEH.
