Global Exchange Drives Nursing Innovation at WAEH Community of Practice Meeting

2025-12-16 08:57:31

On 11 December 2025, the World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH) hosted its final Nursing & Allied Health Community of Practice meeting of the year, bringing together eye care professionals from more than 20 countries. The session highlighted how global collaboration directly transforms clinical practice.

The 15–20 National Ophthalmology Hospital in Paris shared its structured nursing governance model, offering insight into leadership development, cross-departmental coordination and future plans for ophthalmic nursing specialisation. Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center in Guangzhou presented new research on caregiver burden among patients receiving long-term anti-VEGF treatment, identifying key factors that can guide better nursing support and patient-centred care.

A highlight came from Australia, where Sunshine Coast University Hospital announced the launch of the country’s first nurse-led corneal cross-linking service — a project inspired by earlier WAEH knowledge-sharing. The service now delivers specialist care closer to home for regional patients.

With six Communities of Practice planned for 2026 and the annual meeting taking place in Brazil and Chile, WAEH continues to strengthen its global network and accelerate innovation in eye care.
