On 16 September, Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust welcomed colleagues from King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KKESH&RC), based in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to visit the new Moorfields and UCL Centre for Eye Health, which is planned to open in Camden, London, next year.
The visit brought together senior leaders from both organisations and provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships, share experiences and explore future opportunities for collaboration in patient care, research, education and innovation.
During the visit, the KKESH&RC delegation had a tour of the Oriel development and discussed how modern healthcare environments and infrastructure can support high-quality, efficient patient care.
Peter Ridley, chief executive, Moorfields said: “We were delighted to host Dr. Abdulaziz AlRajhi, chief executive officer, and his colleagues. The visit highlighted that, no matter where in the world, hospitals face similar challenges, with ophthalmology services experiencing increasing demand and evolving patient needs.
“These visits are an important part of our membership of the World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH), a global network established in 2007 to promote the exchange of knowledge, research and best practice across leading eye hospitals. By learning from international peers and sharing our own experience, we help advance innovative and sustainable solutions in ophthalmology while continually improving care for our patients.”
