A shaky path: improving patientoutcomes & experiences

In 2015 The Rotterdam Eye Hospital started very modestly with the implementation of Value Based
Healthcare with the introduction of de CatQuest questionnaire for cataract patients. Eight years later VBHC is part of the strategic goals of the hospital. Five care paths are at different levels but all taking steps with the implementation of value based healthcare; developing medical outcome sets, analysing available data, improving patientexperience by innovation of patientinformation and implementation of shared decision making, training healthcare workers (including medical specialists) in improving communication skills for shared decision making.

In my presentation I will share the (shaky) path to outcome based healthcare the Rotterdam Eye Hospital has been and is taking. I will describe our goals and ambitions, illustrate the organisational outline to realise these and be open about the difficulties and setbacks. Finally I will plead for cooperation within the WAEH and other networks to develop outcome sets for ophthalmology and to take steps for possible benchmarking of data in the future.
